About Us

With roots in the Americas tracing back to 1755, the Lowry family has cultivated a rich farming heritage spanning generations. Now in our third consecutive generation of horse breeders, Syzygy Farm is dedicated to producing high-performance sport horses that excel in eventing, jumping, dressage, and, more recently, western dressage and related disciplines.

Our horses have achieved success at the intermediate levels of competition, a testament to our unwavering commitment to breeding athletes with the talent, versatility, and temperament to succeed at the highest levels.

Our Breeding Program

Syzygy Farm specializes in Jockey Club, APHA, Irish Draught, and Irish Draught Sport Horses, offering sales from weanlings to fully trained competitors. Many of our clients are dedicated competitive riders, as are we, so our young horses gain valuable early experience attending competitions to develop their confidence, adaptability, and skills.

We proudly stand select stallions to the public, offering primarily shipped and frozen semen, with live cover available under private treaty arrangements. Our current stallion lineup includes:

  • A distinguished Jockey Club Thoroughbred, known for athleticism and refinement.
  • A rare Irish Draught stallion, contributing bone, strength, and calm minds to sport horse breeding.

Our mares—hailing from Jockey Club, APHA, and Irish Draught lines—are carefully selected to complement our stallions, ensuring the next generation of Syzygy horses embodies the best of athleticism, conformation, and temperament.

A Holistic Approach to Development

At Syzygy Farm, we believe in producing horses that are not only competitive but also well-rounded. To that end, our young horses are exposed to a variety of experiences, including time on trails. Navigating the challenging desert southwest terrain teaches them mindfulness, adaptability, and confidence, qualities that translate seamlessly to any competitive environment.

We emphasize:

  • Athleticism: The ability to excel in a variety of disciplines.
  • Excellent Conformation: Built for soundness and longevity in sport.
  • Willing Temperament: A partner who is eager to learn, work, and succeed.

Whether you’re looking for your next competition partner or a horse with the heart and talent to take you to the next level, Syzygy Farm is committed to producing horses that exceed expectations in the ring and beyond.

Thank you for joining us on this journey as we honor tradition, embrace excellence, and continue building a legacy of exceptional sport horses.

Heather Pettit

Summer Twist

Heather Pettit’s equestrian journey began in the hunter/jumper ring as a child, where she received formal instruction at Moore Stables in North Carolina. These early years instilled in her a strong foundation of horsemanship, discipline, and a love for developing young horses.

As an adult, Heather earned the extraordinary opportunity to work for Australian 5 event rider Kate Chadderton* at her training facility in Woodbine, Maryland. During this time, Heather honed her skills as a horse trainer and competitor, participating in local shows with her resale prospects, including her first Irish Sport Horse, Presley.

Her experience in Maryland included:

  •  Restarting off-track Thoroughbreds for the team’s successful sales program.
  •  Developing young Irish imports, preparing them for competitive careers.
  •  Holding training positions for Warmblood and Arabian breeders, producing quality young horses with a strong foundation.
  •  Volunteering her services as an off-site trainer for Days End Farm Horse Rescue, providing second chances to horses in need.

Since rejoining her family in Arizona, Heather has brought her expertise to Syzygy Farm, where she focuses on developing Irish Draught and Irish Draught Sport Horses for competition and breeding. Heather’s lifelong dedication to horse care, training, and advocacy continues to shape Syzygy Farm’s mission of producing exceptional sport horses with sound minds, strong bodies, and competitive potential.

Georgia Lowry

Georgia and Smart Jac Twist

Georgia Lowry’s journey into heritage breed livestock conservation began with what she thought would be a simple venture: acquiring a pair of Nigerian Dwarf goats as pets. True to her nature, Georgia immersed herself in learning everything she could about the breed. In the process, she discovered that the goats had recently been graduated off the rare breed list maintained by The Livestock Conservancy, sparking her curiosity about the organization and its mission.

Eager to learn more, Georgia joined The Livestock Conservancy and dove into the world of rare breed preservation. Since then, her passion for conservation has led her to:

  •  Develop a flock of rare Shetland Sheep, focusing on preserving their unique traits and historical significance.
  •  Experiment with raising rare poultry breeds, gaining valuable insight into their care and conservation needs.
  •  Acquire Armenian Gampr livestock guardian dogs, a rare and ancient breed known for their exceptional working abilities.

When her sister Heather expressed an interest in Irish Draughts—a critically rare breed with a worldwide population of only a few thousand—Georgia was quick to embrace the idea. With her deep commitment to preserving genetic diversity and her growing expertise in rare breeds, joining the effort to promote and conserve Irish Draughts was a natural fit.

Georgia’s dedication to heritage breed conservation aligns perfectly with Syzygy Farm’s mission, and her efforts play an integral role in their focus on preservation through performance. Her work ensures that these rare breeds not only survive but thrive, contributing their unique traits to future generations.

Why Syzygy?

Syzygy is an astronomical term describing the alignment of celestial bodies, such as the sun, moon, and earth, in a straight line. For us, it symbolizes harmony, balance, and alignment—qualities we strive for in every aspect of our farm.

The name Syzygy also reflects our family’s personal connection to astronomy. Farm founder Sonya Lowry developed her passion for the stars while leading the team that created the first digital archive for National Optical Astronomy Observatory (NOAO) data. This groundbreaking project brought our family to Arizona, where the vast skies and open landscapes inspired a new kind of exploration—breeding and preserving rare, exceptional livestock.

Just as celestial bodies align to create powerful natural phenomena, we align breeding excellence, tradition, and innovation to produce exceptional horses. Syzygy Farm represents our commitment to creating horses that embody the perfect balance of athleticism, temperament, and conformation, honoring the legacy of our past while looking toward the future.
